Sembawang Neighbourhood Guide — What’s Around Blk 333 Sembawang Close

Sembawang is one of Singapore’s quieter northern towns — but that does not mean inconvenient. From Blk 333 Sembawang Close, you have a supermarket, a mall, and a park all within walking distance, plus excellent MRT access to the city and Johor Bahru.

Here is everything worth knowing before you move in.

Food and Coffee Shops

Broadway Food Centre — Next Block

The closest kopitiam is right at 334A Sembawang Close — literally the neighbouring block. Chicken rice, wonton mee, kopi, and standard HDB coffeeshop staples. Perfect for a quick weekday breakfast or dinner before cooking.

Sun Breeze and Sun Natura (~400 m)

Two newer HDB precincts on Sembawang Crescent, both a short 5-minute walk away. Sun Breeze (Blk 365A) has a Kimly Coffeeshop at the ground floor. Sun Natura (Blk 362) has a Kopitiam. Good alternatives when Broadway Food Centre is crowded.

Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre

Opened in December 2022, Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre at 21 Canberra Link is one of Singapore’s newer hawker centres — 44 stalls, over 800 seats, set inside the Bukit Canberra integrated hub. About 950 m from the block (a 12-minute walk, or one bus stop). The “food in a park” setting is genuinely enjoyable.

Sun Plaza Food Stalls

Sun Plaza at 30 Sembawang Drive (adjacent to Sembawang MRT) has multiple food options inside and around the mall — about 500 m away.

Supermarkets

  • Prime Supermarket, Sun Breeze (Blk 365A Sembawang Crescent, ~400 m) — the nearest supermarket; convenient for a quick top-up without going to the MRT.
  • NTUC FairPrice at Sun Plaza (~500 m) — well-stocked full-size supermarket in the mall basement.
  • Sheng Siong at Blk 105 Canberra Street (~1.2 km) — open 24 hours; useful for late-night restocking.
  • NTUC FairPrice at Canberra Plaza (~1.6 km) — if you are already at Canberra MRT station.

Malls

Sun Plaza (~500 m)

Sun Plaza is directly connected to Sembawang MRT Exit B and is the main neighbourhood mall. NTUC FairPrice anchors the basement. Dining, services, a hair salon, and a food court are all here — including the Sembawang Public Library on the upper floors. Sun Plaza is actually closer than the MRT itself (500 m vs 650 m).

Canberra Plaza (~1.6 km)

Opened December 2021, Canberra Plaza is a mid-sized mall linked directly to Canberra MRT. Tenants include A&W, Daiso, and NTUC FairPrice. One stop from Sembawang on the NSL.

Sembawang Shopping Centre (~2 km)

The older mall on Sembawang Road. Note that the Giant Hypermarket here closed in July 2024, so it is no longer an anchor draw — but other tenants remain.

Parks and Nature

Canberra Park (~400 m)

One of Sembawang’s best-kept secrets. Canberra Park on Sembawang Crescent is a short walk from the block and features a children’s playground (inclusive design with wheelchair ramps), fitness corner, basketball court, and open green space. It is also close to one of Singapore’s few natural beach spots.

Sembawang Park (~1.5 km)

A 15-hectare coastal park on the northern shore. Features include Beaulieu House, a jetty, the famous Battleship Playground, BBQ pits (bookable), and a natural beach section. The Canberra–Sembawang Park Connector (a 1.6 km cycling and walking path starting at Canberra Link) connects the estate to the park.

Bukit Canberra (~950 m)

The integrated Bukit Canberra hub includes Jelutung Harbour Park — a modern community park with water play features, exercise equipment, and open lawns. The hawker centre and Sembawang Polyclinic are within the same complex.

Schools

Blk 333 Sembawang Close has an unusual advantage: Sembawang Secondary School shares the same street (Sembawang Close). Families with secondary school children will find the school is essentially at the doorstep.

Other schools within the area:

  • Sembawang Primary School (~700 m, near Sun Plaza)
  • Canberra Secondary School (~1 km)
  • Canberra Primary School (~1.4 km)
  • Endeavour Primary School (~1.5 km)

Healthcare

  • Sembawang Polyclinic, Bukit Canberra (~950 m) — government polyclinic for subsidised medical care, part of the Bukit Canberra integrated hub
  • Various GP clinics within Sun Plaza (~500 m)

Summary

Sembawang is a genuinely liveable neighbourhood. The daily essentials — kopitiam, supermarket, Sembawang MRT — are all within 500 m. Two additional coffee shops and a supermarket are within 400 m at Sun Breeze and Sun Natura. Parks and green space are closer than in most parts of Singapore. Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre is a weekend draw in its own right.

Blk 333 Sembawang Close sits right at the heart of this — quiet residential street, green outlook, and 10 minutes from the MRT.
